Former Nigerian lawmaker, Sen. Shehu Sani on Monday morning caused a stir on the microblogging platform, Twitter, after claiming that none of the 2023 presidential candidates has a public record of being a killer.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain who is perceived to be speaking in parables said that former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, though might know better about such claims after occupying the nation’s number one seat of power.
The former lawmaker was reacting to the warning by Jonathan that Nigerians should not vote for killers in 2023.
Sani’s tweet reads: “None of the Presidential Candidates have any record of being a Killer. But GEJ once occupied a vantage position for him to know better and deeper than the rest of us. Time will tell.”
Naija News understands that the 8th national assembly lawmaker’s post has since stirred the internet space as netizens begin name-calling, pointing fingers at political big wigs in the country.
The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu was dragged into the arguments as netizens linked him to the murder of an influential politician and former PDP chieftain in Lagos State, Anthony Olufunsho Williams.
While some of the netizens were bold enough to mention Tinubu’s name, some indirectly pointed fingers at the APC’s presidential flagbearer by recalling a publication credited to a former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode.
It could be recalled that in 2015, Fani-Kayode who had found his cover with the PDP then, alleged that APC was full of snakes and vampires.
Fani-Kayode alleged in his widely published statement then that Williams who aspired to become a governor of Lagos State was killed by some evil, power-hungry and callous men.
He further mentioned that the deceased was a formidable political adversary of Tinubu at the time.
In the statement, Fani-Kayode recalled how Tinubu got arrested on no less than two occasions by the American authorities over alleged money laundering.
Naija News reports that Nigerians on Monday dug up the APC chieftain’s claims after seeing Sani’s post on Twitter.
Twitter Reactions To Shehu Sani’s Claims
“Who killed Funsho Williams? Is he not among the contestants? Why are you saying none of them has record of being a killer? How many persons have Lagos Agberos liked while working for Tinubu and MC Oluomo? Abegi” – a Twitter user, Dickson Okorie [@MrDickson_O] asked.
Other reactions to Sani’s tweet reads:
KINGSMAN @brynolino “GEJ knows who he is talking about. By the way we re still asking who killed Funsho Williams and the end sars victims, APC should answer that.
@EthereumBlog – “The incident of Funsho William’s death and death of Endsar protesters can help us point to who GEJ is referring.
Godwin Ibadin @GIbadin – “Very contradictory statement. Do we have any record where killers are named? Are their past and present activities not enough to know who they are? GEJ does not need to mention names, we know them and the message is very clear.
Idris @Rabboski – “None of the Presidential Candidates have any record of (being) a killer’. Distinguished, how can you say this na…? So, Who Killed Funsho Williams? Who Killed Modu Gubio? Why did Canada grant Asylum to Lukmon Owolabi Shoyebo? There’re indeed very grave Circumstantial Records”.
How Funsho Williams Was Killed
The renowned Lagosian, Williams was murdered on July 27, 2006, Naija News recalls.
Findings at the time had revealed that the politician was found bound, strangled, and stabbed at his home in Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi, an exclusive and wealthy neighbourhood in Lagos.
A prosecution witness, John Obafunwa had disclosed years ago during the trial of six suspected killers of the then Lagos governorship aspirant, that Williams died from lack of air intake due to manual strangulation.
The revelation was made before the Igbosere Lagos High Court judge, Justice Adeniyi Adebajo, in 2014, years after Williams’ death.
Obafunwa who is a professor and Chief Forensic Pathologist of Lagos State, maintained then that his claims were the result of the post-mortem carried out on the deceased.
Naija News understands that the trial of the suspected killers of the politicians has since been stalled.
