Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will retain power in the 2023 general elections.
The Presidential aspirant said the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not a threat to the ruling party.
Osinbajo spoke with newsmen on Tuesday shortly after emerging from the screening held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
The vice president said the exercise was fruitful and expressed optimism about the party’s chances ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
The Presidential hopeful said he discussed several issues relating to national and party concerns at the screening exercise, adding that the exercise screening went well.
He said: “We were able to discuss several issues; issues of national and party concerns; and it went very well indeed; we had a very good chat.
“Of course, we are ahead of any party; way ahead, APC is ahead.”
Some of the aspirants screened are President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole; former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio; Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Ahmad Lawan and Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.
Other aspirants screened are former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu, oil magnate, Tein Jack Rich; Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River, and former Minister of Information under late Gen. Sani Abacha, Chief Ikeobasi Mokelu.
