The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost four of its chieftains to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State.
The defectors include the speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Aminu Achidu, and three governorship aspirants of the APC.
The gubernatorial aspirants, who defected to PDP, were identified as former Minister of Sports Yusuf Suleiman, Alhaji Abubakar Gumbi, and serving Rep. Balarabe Salame.
Others who joined the defectors include Yusuf Kurdula, Senator Bello Gada, State lawmaker Murtala Maigona, serving National Commissioner in the Public Complaints Commission, and Senator Jibril Gada.
Delta State Governor and PDP Vice presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, while receiving the defectors in Sokoto, said his party is working judiciously to salvage Nigeria from its current insecurity challenges.
According to Okowa, Atiku Abubakar is the man to take Nigeria out of its present stage, and everyone is needed in the struggle for a better tomorrow.
He said, “Atiku is the man to take Nigeria out of its present stage, as such our country of tomorrow needs everyone in the struggle by PDP.”
Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal also expressed happiness over the acceptance of the defectors, stating that they are satisfied and convinced with the leadership of PDP.
He said: “Today, you are all returning home. I am happy that all of you are satisfied and convinced with the PDP leadership in Sokoto and Nigeria.”
