Festus Agas, Chief of Staff to the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has denied resigning from his position.
Naija News reports that Okowa had last week directed any of his appointees who have political ambitions to resign their appointment in line with Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act 2022.
Following the directive, Agas was said to have tendered his resignation on Monday and has started clearing out his desk and packing his belongings from the office.
Confirming Agas’ resignation in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday, the governor’s spokesman, Ossai Ovie Success, described him as a good father, leader with humility, and a heart of generosity.
He wrote, “I just had a good time with Rt Hon Festus Ovie Agas who just resigned as Chief of Staff Government House Asaba. We spent a good time together at the office. Rt Hon Ovie Agas has always been a good father, a leader with humility and a heart of generosity.”
But in a chat with The PUNCH, Agas denied resigning from his position, saying that he is still working.
“It is not true, I have not resigned, as I speak to you, I am in my office,” he said.
Meanwhile, seven commissioners have resigned their appointments in order to contest the 2023 governorship election in the state.
The commissioners are Basil Ganagana, Evelyn Oboro, Julius Egbedi, Jonathan Ukodhiko, Christian Onogba, Ovie Oghoore, and Chika Ossai.
