A former Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Henry Ajomale has stated that the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu would unveil a Muslim running mate next month.
Ajomale in an interview with Punch noted that Kabiru Masari would be replaced with another person by July 15.
He further stated that the search for Vice Presidential candidate has been narrowed down to Borno, Kano, and Kaduna.
Ajomale while speaking on consultation for Tinubu’s running mate said, “Although we are still consulting, it is certain that the APC will be flying a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
“Masari, our placeholder, may likely be substituted before July 15. However, the destination is still between Borno State in the North-East and Kano/Kaduna states in the North-West. Either way, it will be a Muslim running mate.”
Some of the names that have been considered for the party’s vice-presidential candidate include the former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, the current Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
Speaking on the chance of a Christian Northerner emerging as Tinubu’s running mate in 2023, Ajomale said, “The truth is that Asiwaju has no choice. The majority of the northerners are Muslims and fielding a Christian northerner is a risk that can split his vote to give Atiku an edge. But if he settles for the former (a Muslim), they will troop out in large numbers to vote for him.”
