The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has so far refused to make any categorical statement amidst the insinuations that all is not well between him and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership.
The fiery and outspoken Wike has not made any statement since he lost out in the quest to emerge the Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP, in which Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa emerged.
Before the running mate episode, Wike had also lost out on the 2023 PDP presidential ticket which was won by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at the party’s presidential primaries held in Abuja.
Some stakeholders within the PDP have however said it is important for Atiku to reach out to Governor Wike and explain why he chose Okowa and ignored the counsel of a committee set up to pick the vice-presidential candidate of the party.
The most vocal of those who believe Atiku should reach out to Wike is the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom who affirmed that fourteen out of seventeen members of the committee set up to choose a vice-presidential candidate for the PDP had advised Atiku to pick Wike as his running mate.
However, to the surprise of the committee members, the Presidential candidate of PDP instead picked the governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa.
The development is said to have made Wike feel bad and added to the situation, his uncommon silence is believed to be causing jitters among the PDP leadership with some Nigerians insinuating the Rivers State Governor might be planning to dump the party which he has supported for many years.
However, rather than break his silence, the Rivers State Governor who is on vacation in Turkey has so far kept his thoughts and plans to himself.
Taking to his Twitter account on Thursday evening, Wike shared a fresh picture of himself with the caption; “Thankful for a fine evening.”
