PDP Internal Crisis Deserves More Attention Than Muslim-Muslim Ticket – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked Nigerians to pay more attention to the internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News recall that the PDP plunged into crisis after the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, overlooked Governor Nyesom Wike of River State and picked his Delta State counterpart, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate for the presidential election.

The Rivers governor, who came second in the party’s presidential primary, has refused to openly back the presidential ambition of Atiku.

Some top members of the party who are unhappy with the PDP leadership have also joined Wike in calling for the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, APC Spokesman, Felix Morka said the PDP is faced with a major crisis and attention should be paid to the party.

Morka accused the PDP of using the controversy of the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket fielded for the 2023 elections to distract Nigerians from their internal wranglings.

The APC spokesperson claimed that the PDP shunned power rotation in the choice of its presidential candidate, while the APC chose a southerner as its presidential candidate.

He said: “I think we all need to pay a little attention to what is going on in the opposition side. That party – PDP – is crippled completely by their own internal crisis. That is where the attention should be.

“They are the one who has shortchanged our idea of rotation and power balancing between the north and the south. They took their presidential candidate from the north. We took it to the south because our party believes in fairness.

“We have a president who is from the north of the country and we thought for good reasons – to balance up the need for peace, unity and inclusiveness in this country that we cede our presidency to the south.

“We have done that but the PDP did the exact opposite to go north. Those who do not want to actually face the truth would rather discuss whether is about the Muslim-Muslim ticket or other things to distract from the fundamental breach of their own constitution.

“They are the only party that entrenched the principle of rotation in their constitution but in flagrant breach of that principle, they pushed the presidency to the north. It is up to Nigerians to decide whether the need for unity is sufficient to actually reject the call by that party to be voted into office come next year.
