As the presidential election draws nearer in Nigeria, the leading presidential candidates are beginning to break down their manifestos and masterplan for the country, should they be elected. The candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu has made known his intentions and goals for Nigeria and one of the major highlights of his manifesto is tackling poverty in the country.
It is no news that a large part of Nigeria’s population is vulnerable to poverty, with about a 33.3% rate of youth unemployment. Tinubu has however promised to break the shackle of poverty and destitution in Nigeria, and give economic opportunity to the poorest and most vulnerable in Nigeria.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled his intent to build a Nigeria, especially for the Nigerian youth, where there will be sufficient jobs with decent wages thereby creating a better life. This is gainful employment matching the social empowerment of the citizenry.
For Asiwaju, offering the youth gainful employment is not a rocket science application. As governor of Lagos state, he converted the dreadful ItaOko prisoners’ camp into a youth skills acquisition center. There was also a program of women empowerment to enable women to cope with the harsh economic realities and make them become better individuals beyond housewives in their different families. More importantly, women were reoriented towards self-employment.
Asiwaju says he seeks a Nigeria where no parent is compelled to send a child to bed hungry, worried whether tomorrow shall bring food. How better can it get? One of the strategies he is set to implement is giving more attention to agriculture as one of our major resources in this country. He promises to provide assistance to the ever-toiling farmers, through enlightened agricultural policy. This in turn will boost foreign earnings and the creation of jobs.
Considering his track records in pro-democracy advocacy and as governor of Lagos state, Tinubu is considered most prepared for the presidency. His leadership style and quality are what we need at this time when we are faced with numerous economic and financial challenges.
His emergence as the standard bearer of the APC is no doubt, a national call to duty, to serve humanity, bring prosperity to Nigeria, and replicate what he has done in the city of Lagos on a national scale. His administration guarantees to place Nigeria on a sure path to progress and prosperity.
